Hello and thank you for choosing the Creatr HS for your printing needs.

In the following solutions you will be instructed on how to replace your Creatr HS extruder.

Tools:

  • a number 1.5, 2 and a 2.5 Allen key;
  • a number 7 and a number 8 wrench;
  • a pair of pliers.

Heat the Extruder

Preheat the extruder completely to 220º. This helps any filament to prevent your from removing the nozzle; it also creates enough heat to expand the print head heat sink to help the extruder to be removed in later steps.

Remove the Nozzle

    Next, you have to remove the nozzle from the extruder that you want to replace. You do this by using the pliers to hold  the extruder in place and use the number 8 wrench to remove the nozzle as shown in the picture below Pic.1.

Pic.1

Pull Out the Extruder

    Warning! the extruders will be very hot; please take the necessary precautions to avoid injury.

    The next step is to pull out the extruder you do this by loosening the grub screw with the number 2 Allen key from top right side of the extruder as shown in Pic.2 and then gently remove the extruder.

Pic.2

Removing the Resistor

    Once the extruder is out the next step is removing the resistor. You do this by loosening the grub screw with the 1.5 Allen key as you can see in the picture Pic.3.

Pic.3

Removing the Thermistor

    To remove the thermistor you will have to use a number 7 wrench and unbolt it from behind the extruder as you can see in the picture above.

    At this point you have two options you can either use the existing thermistor and resistor for the replacement extruder or you can replace them as well.If you decide to keep the resistor and thermistor simply mount the extruder back into the print head the same way you removed it

Changing the Thermistor and Resistor

    If you want to change the thermistor and resistor you also have to remove the print head housing. You do this by using the number 2.5 Allen key to remove the front bolt circled in the picture below Pic.4 then remove the housing.

Pic.4

    Once you remove the housing you will have access to all the connections for the print head ( fan, thermistor, resistor connections).The connections for the thermistors and resistors are at the bottom of the print head housing see Pic.5( number 1 and number 2 are the connections for the resistor and number 3 is for the thermistors)

Pic.5

    Please keep in mind to disconnect the corresponding thermistor and resistor of the extruder you are replacing. An easy way to do this is to remember that for the right extruder the connections are on the right and for the left one the connections are on the left.

    Once you replace the resistor and thermistor mount the housing back up turn the printer on and check and see if your extruders are heating up.

Also Pay Ptention to the Level of the Extruders

    After mounting the extruder/extruders depending on the case back onto the print head please follow this link and see how to align your extruders to the same height.
