Hello and thank you for choosing the Creatr HS for your printing needs.

 

In the following solution you will be instructed on how to calibrate the offset for your Creatr HS hot ends.


NOTE:You likely were guided to this article because you were either not able to find the factory calibrated offset sticker on the bottom of the front of the printer, or if you replaced the heat sink of the print head.


Even if you do not have a sticker, you might be able to find them if the printer came to you with the most recent updates:

If you select the Information icon on the Stand-Alone Display you will get something similar to the above screen. Note that in the example screen seen above, the X and Y offsets are X15.10 Y0.15.


If you are here on your own, please check for a small sticker under your printer that has 2 coordinate (or select the Information icon in your printer's menu). If you do find the offset coordinates, please use the following solution article instead:

Set extruder offset for your CreatrHS (M50) ◄ This method only works with the latest updates. Please install them first in the following order:


The first step is to download the .GCODE file attached to the bottom of this solution.



   The .GCODE file is set up so that each extruder will print a square. To calibrate the extruders you need to adjust the offset in the firmware so that both extruders print the square from exactly the same spot and make sure they overlap.


Once you download the .GCODE file, connect the printer to Simplify3D/Materialise and run the file. Make sure to use two different colors for each extruder, as this will make it easier to spot any deviation that has to be corrected.

The next step depends on whether you have the latest updates for the printer and which 3D slicing software you use.


  • Old update users need to stick to STEP 03A
  • Updated printer and Simplify3D Users should use STEP 03B
  • Updated printer and Materialise Users should use STEP 03C

Old Printer Updates

After you run the .GCODE file, disconnect the printer from Simplify,and open Arduino 1.0.6; load the firmware and start adjusting the offset until the two squares overlap.

ATTENTION!
After running the .GCODE file from Simplify you must disconnect the printer from Simplify before you adjust the offset in the firmware and try to upload it from Arduino so as not to have any errors.

New Printer Updates and Simplify3D Users

NOTE: The new updates allow you to skip using Arduino 1.0.6 altogether as well as having to disconnect in Simplify3D to re-flash the updated X and Y offsets on the firmware. In short, the new updates save you time.


With Simplify3D still open, look under Tools menu at the top and open the Machine Control Panel. Under the Communications tab, you will see the code Simplify 3D is sending and receiving to/from your connected printer. At the bottom of that tab, there is a field box that allows you to enter g-code commands with a "Send" button to the right of it.


In command line field. Type the code M50, and hit "Send." The command M50 by itself will display the current X and Y offsets that are saved on the firmware. Using capital letters and only 1 space to separate M50 from the "X" and 1 space to separate the coordinates, you can update the coordinates.


For example, M50 X15.01 Y-0.10 will update the x offset to be 15.01 and the y offset to be -0.10. 


M500 saves/flashes the new offsets to the firmware.


New Printer Updates & Materialise Users

The new updates allow you to skip using Arduino 1.0.6 altogether as well as having to disconnect in Materialise to re-flash the updated X and Y offsets on the firmware. In short, the new updates save you time.


With Materialise still open, click the Print 3D button at the top. When the Submit Job window opens, click the Preferences button in the top-right corner of that window. This opens the Configure Printer window; select the Machine Control tab in this window. At the bottom of that tab, there is a field box that allows you to enter g-code commands with a "Send" button to the right of it.

 

In command line field. Type the code M50, and hit "Send." The command M50 by itself will display the current X and Y offsets that are saved on the firmware. Using capital letters and only 1 space to separate M50 from the "X" and 1 space to separate the coordinates, you can update the coordinates.

 

For example, M50 X15.01 Y-0.10 will update the x offset to be 15.01 and the y offset to be -0.10. 

 

M500 saves/flashes the new offsets to the firmware.
