The Leapfrog Bolt (PRO) has two printheads, which offers the possibility of printing in different modes.

1. Normal

Single extruder
  • One or multiple models, printed with 1 printhead
  • Single printhead = single material
  • Simplify3D auto configure extruders  Choose “Left extruder only” or Right extruder only”.
  • When enabling support, the support will be made out of the same material as your model.

Dual extruder
  • One or multiple models, printed with 2 printheads sequentially.
  • sequentially means that the printhead take turns in which they are active. So in practice only 1 printhead is printing at a given time.
  • Dual printhead = dual material
  • Your model out of Material A with Right extruder, and support out of material B with Left extruder?
    • Choose “Both extruder” at “auto-configure extruders”. Both extruders can now be used for this process. Now, its time to assign these extruders correctly., in the “support” tab navigate to “Support Extruder” and choose “. Left Extruder”. In this example the left extruder will be printing the support material. Then in the “Layer” tab and “Infill” tab choose  “Right Extruder” The actual model (hence layers & infill) will be printed with the right extruder.
  • Your model made out of two different colors / materials?
    • Use the ‘Dual Extrusion Wizard” in the upper bar of the simplify3D interface select “Tools”and then Dual Extrusion Wizard. This wizard will help you to select the right extruder for the right part of the model. Each color / material needs to have their own STL. Also these models need to be aligned correctly so they have the correct fit.

2. Sync mode

  • The left and right printhead print the same model(s) simultaneously
  • The preparation in simplify3d, is quite similar to preparing a print for “Single Extruder” because: Single printhead = single material
  • Support material has to be same material as model since right extruder is already busy copying the left extruder
  • Simplify3D auto configure extruders Always choose “Left extruder only”
  • Align your model on the left halve of the X-axis in the build volume.
  • Available build volume for Sync mode is (Left extruder) X95 Y320.

3. Mirror mode

  • The right printhead mirrors the model. model(s) printed simultaneously
  • The preparation in simplify3d, is quite similar to preparing a print for “Single Extruder” because: Single printhead = single material
  • Support material has to be same material as model since right extruder is already busy copying (mirroring) the left extruder
  • Simplify3D auto configure extruders  Always choose “Left extruder only”
  • Align your model on the left halve of the X-axis in the build volume.
  • Available build volume for Mirror mode is (Left extruder) X105 Y320.
